Bleeding hearts are very popular garden perennials. Their name comes from the unique shape of their dangling blooms.
Two common varieties of Bleeding Heart are: Dicentra eximia, which blooms in early summer until first frost and has blue-green fern-like foliage, and Dicentra spectabilis, which blooms in late spring or early summer and then dies back.
