If your African violet plants are infested with broad mites they may look similar to the plants below. Many of the symptoms of broad mites such as twisted or distorted flowers or bloom stalks, discolored leaves, or leaves that curl downward on the edges can also be the result of environmental or cultural factors or possibly damage from another type of pest or disease.
If you suspect mites it is recommended that you confirm the diagnosis with a local university extension or co-op before attempting to treat the problem. Treating for mites requires the use of expensive specially-formulated miticides that won’t help at all if your plant symptoms are not due to mites. See Pests & Diseases for more information.
